On Thursday, December 3rd, 2020 Clara Sue Johnson, passed away peacefully in her home with her daughters at her bedside. She was born Easter Sunday, April 12, 1936 in Decaturville, TN to the late William Clyde and Clara Smith and was a lifelong Decatur County. She was the 12th child of Clyde and Clara White Smith. Our grandmother had our mother in her late 40's. This was fairly common during that time but such a miracle in our minds. Clara's mom died when she was only 9 years old but we never heard her mention the hardships she would have endured as a motherless child. Her older sisters all stepped up to help raise her.
Clara, more affectionately known as “Puddy” was a kind, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and servant of God.. She had shared with the girls that her Pappy had given her that nickname. Pappy gave all his grandchildren nicknames.
Puddy/Clara married her High School Sweetheart, Billy Muriel Johnson (Deceased), February 4th, 1955. Clara was 19 at the time of her wedding.
She will forever be remembered and missed by her 3 Daughters and their families: Jo Nell Montgomery (Robert), Susan Wortham (George) and Rosemary Loftis (Robert), her 5 Grand-Children: Jillian Yarbro (Marty), Jennifer Kent (Nick), Kyle Loftis (Dixie), Sarah Nielsen (Gus), and Forrest Wortham and her 3 Great Grandchildren: Fisher & Mack Yarbro, and Gloria Loftis.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her 11 siblings.
PuddyClara was a deeply religious person and supported the church in every way she could . She was a member of the Mount Carmel Methodist Church. She dedicated her life to family, friends, her church, and Community. Clara was a Civic Servant as a Member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Ladies Axillary, Donated Blood at every opportunity, and was an Election Day Poll Worker.
She was completely unselfish, she was a dedicated mother who made many sacrifices, all in the best interest of her family. We will miss her dearly and feel truly blessed to have had the best Mom anyone could ever have! She will be missed by all that knew her.
