Danny M Mills

Danny Maurice Mills, 65, of Evansville, IN, formerly of Parsons, passed away Tuesday, November 14th, after fighting a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Danny was at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN  at his passing. 

Danny was born February 27, 1958 in Jackson, TN to the late George Ray Mills and Hazel Louise (Tate) Mills. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Mills, Jr., sister, Janie Thomas and a nephew, Dwayne Mills.

Danny was a 1977 graduate of Riverside High School, a master Mason and a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. He was a member of the Parsons Fire Department in the 1970's and 80's and was one of the founding members of the Decatur County Fire Department in 1982. Danny went to work for Decatur County Sheriff's Department under former Sheriff Ray Moore becoming his Chief Deputy. After Sheriff Moore's sudden death in 1985, Danny was appointed Sheriff for the remainder of that term. Danny then ran for Sheriff in 1986 and 1990 winning 2 terms. With those 2 full terms and the remainder of Sheriff Moore's term, Danny claims the position of holding the office of Sheriff longer than anyone else in Decatur County. Before moving to Indiana, Danny served on the Parsons City Council. Danny never met a stranger and helped anyone who needed help. He loved Nascar racing, classis cars and TN Volunteer football. Danny dearly loved everything Tennessee and he loved the Lord.  

Danny is  survived by his wife Donna (Littrell) Mills, of Evansville, IN; three daughters, Leslie (Chris)  Beal, of Parsons, TN; Megan (Nicholas Pratt) Shotwell, of Bath Springs, TN; Ashley (Karry Bacon) Shotwell, of Newburgh, IN; a sister, Peggy Mills Moore Grice, of Parsons, TN; and his beloved dog. "Jack".
 
He is also survived by 3 Grandchildren - Aiden Beal, Sebastian Pratt and Kenice Bacon; 5 nieces - Debbie Cagle, Katie Evans, Betty Sue Thomas, Cathy Mills-Follette, and Tonia Mills; a nephew, Paul Wayne Moore , who was like a brother to him.

His Funeral Service will be held at Reed's Chapel, Decaturville, TN, at 1 PM on Thursday, November 16th,  with Stacey Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday 10 AM until service.
