Paul Hays Ivy, 87, of Decaturville, TN, was called home by our Jesus Tuesday, June 27th, while at the Lexington Community Hospital following a valiant fight within this earthly body. The love of his family and his God is remembered and cherished by those that knew or came in contact with him.
Paul "Granddaddy" Ivy was born January 25, 1936 to Howard and Annie Ivy of Decaturville Tennessee. Always a man that emphasized and appreciated education, Paul attended Decaturville High School and University of Tennessee. He continued his education by receiving a Master's degree from Murray State University, where he also served as a adjunct professor. Mr. Paul was employed as a environmental conservationist for the State of Tennessee until his deserved retirement.
"Grandaddy" as he was known state-wide and a name that he cherished, was fortunate to find and marry the love of his entire life, Nancy Jane Burton Ivy on April 6, 1958. The loving union produced 2
daughters, Elizabeth and Emily, as well as a house filled with the Holy Spirit of God through prayer meetings, the singing and playing of hymns, and the presence of the Lord.
Preferring to call himself "A Jesus Man" Paul Ivy lived his life to be a testimony to our Lord. It is this testimony in words and deeds; the knowledge that Paul Ivy was indeed " A Jesus Man", that now comforts the family during this difficult time.
Paul Ivy is survived by his 2 proud and grateful daughters, Elizabeth Jane Carpenter ( Chris) and Emily Ruth Ivy, as well as grandchildren Brandi Elizabeth Cooper (Aaron), Macey Brooke Sweat (Richard), Ivy Leigh Lowery (Jay) Ellen Ruth Reed (Jon), Anna Grace Hubler (Seth), Allie Beth Bruce Garison) Haley Adison Carpenter, and nine great-grandchildren with one more expected. He is also is survived by a sister in law, Pat Ivy, two brothers in law, Jim Burton (Mary) and Jerry Laster and a very special friend, Patty Houston.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Howard and Annie Ivy, his wife Nancy Burton Ivy, his sister, Genita Sparks, and two brothers, Newman and L.H. "Cotton" Ivy.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 28th from 4 PM until 8 PM and again on Thursday at 9 AM until service. His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Thursday, June 29th at Reed's Chapel in Decaturville, TN
Mr. Paul's earthly shell will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at Concord Methodist Church Cemetery following the service. Bro. Welvon Mayo will be officiating the service.
