Randy Lynn Quinn, 71, of Parsons, TN passed away Tuesday, January 31st in Nashville, TN.
Randy Lynn Quinn was born on August 6 th , 1951 in Decatur County to parents Thomas Quinn and Lillian Haynes Quinn, who proceeded him in death. He graduated from Riverside High School, Class of 1969,where he excelled in football and FFA. He looked forward to attending their class reunion. He never tired of reminiscing, reconnecting with his classmates, dancing and laughing. He attended college at University of Tennessee Martin and Jackson State Community College. Randy married Nancy Inman Quinn in 1988, and they have spent the last 34 years together. Randy has two children: daughter Carisa Jane Quinn Gulledge, who is married to RJ Gulledge, and son, Logan Robert Haynes. He has five grandchildren: Allie Haynes, Noah Haynes, Trent Smith, Lanie Smith, and Rhett Gulledge. He is also survived by his sister, Geneta Quinn Taylor, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Randy grew up on a farm in the Hydro community learning the ropes at an early age and continued to farm the same land he grew up on including row crops, raising swine and cattle. He also owned and operated a sawmill and logging business, as well as owning R&N Trucking Company. Randy was a founding member of the Hydro Volunteer Fire Department which he continued to be a part of for years. Randy also served his community on the Decatur County School Board for 18 years. Even though Randy always had multiple irons in the fire, his most cherished job was devoting his life to serving his community in law enforcement. His career began in 1977 at the Turney Center as a corrections officer, and in 1982, he started with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Ray Moore. He continued in law enforcement with the Parsons Police Department, attaining Assistant Chief status and retired from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department in 2019 as Lieutenant, after 45 years of combined service. Randy enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and attending events they participated in. You could find him in the stands at football and baseball games, at dance recitals and graduations. He loved music, playing the guitar, and dancing and traveling with his wife. Randy would want to be remembered as a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and a contributing person to the betterment of his community.
Funeral services for Randy will be at 2 PM Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Parsons with Phillip Gulledge and Tracy McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery in Holladay where Law Enforcement Rites will be conducted. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Thursday and continue until service hour. Law enforcement officers will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
