Angels welcomed a new choir member when Wilma Gilbert departed this life to be with her heavenly father on October 5th, 2021. She was born Josie Wilma White to parents Arlie Madison and Verna Pratt White on June 29th, 1921.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husbands Hugh McClure and Orb Gilbert, a sister, Vernell White, and a brother, Paul White. She is survived by a sister, Irene Markle Bourne of Nashville as well as three stepchildren: Shirley (Barry) Crosby, Betty (Danny) Smith, and Terry (Julia) Gilbert. She is also survived by seven step grandchildren, fourteen step great grandchildren, and three step great great grandchildren. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and will cherish her memory.
Gifted with a rich and strong alto voice, Wilma loved singing old fashioned church hymns and going to Concord Methodist Church where she became a Christian and has been a member since 1934....87 years!!
She was an excellent cook and she shared her food with the sad, the sick, and the bereaved. Nieces and nephews scrambled to get a slice of her red velvet cake and pecan pies that she often brought to decoration days and family gatherings.
She believed in giving generously and considered all people her family. She was loved by all. She lived a sweet and simple life.
Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 1 PM at Concord United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Concord Cemetery. Visitation is Friday 5 PM - 8 PM at Reed's Chapel - Decaturville and Saturday 11 AM until service at Concord United Methodist Church.
Face masks are required at the funeral home and the family requests no food be brought to visitation or the funeral service.
